THE CONCEPT
Andrew makes songs based on your ideas.
And sometimes he just makes songs.
But anyway, suggest something?

NEW CHAPTER
It’s been a gradual transition that wasn’t always even apparent to me, but I can definitively say now that my work will be focused more on my YouTube channel than this website. (Though a redesign is on its way that will integrate the two a bit more anyway.)
Of course, all the songs here will stay up for your enjoyment – some might even be made into videos in the near future. :) I will also continue to do commissions.
Thank you all for your support and encouragement over the years. Things are getting bigger and better and I hope you’ll stay on this magic carpet ride with me forever!

THE STORM-RUNNER
This is a Paid Song! Learn more…
The Storm-Runner is a sestina (poetry form involving the use of the same six end words in a defined pattern) I wrote a while ago. I think this would work well with a quiet, intense rock background or with just a guitar in the background.
If you’ve ever heard of Great Big Sea, I think that might be a good place to start…somewhere between them and Flogging Molly, maybe… I don’t think any instrumental breaks would be involved; the poetry form is pretty unified and I don’t want to ruin that.
When the air is still over the plains,
And the clouds on the horizon are black,
Advancing on the sudden, chill-blast wind,
In the calm before the first crack of thunder,
A lone man looks up, smiling, to the sky,
The Storm-Runner, they call him; a man immortal,
He stands facing the storm, knowing it is not immortal,
It will die out after its swift, violent conquest of the plains,
He calls out to his chosen god, throwing his arms to the sky,
A flash of lightning makes his form seem black,
He grins, roaring a challenge to the first rumble of thunder,
His clothes and hair fly in the sudden rush of wind,
The rain pours down, blown horizontal by the wind,
It chills him not; his soul burns with fires immortal,
He laughs as the storm drowns his voice with its thundering,
A dark leviathan lumbering across the plains,
Its brow curled in its fury, its war host shrouded in black,
As it pelts the lands of mortal men from its realm in the sky,
The storm clouds roar a challenge from the sky,
The Storm-Runner laughs his defiance to the howling wind,
The storm blots out the sun, shading the sky with black,
It means to crush this foolish immortal,
Standing fearlessly before it on the plains,
It gathers its might, roaring with furious thunder,
The Storm-Runner takes off, joining the bison as they thunder,
Away from the wonton fury in the skies,
The storm chases him across the plains,
His doom ever bellowed by the screaming wind,
The storm flings cruel, flashing lightning down at the immortal,
Hoping to char his laughing flesh coal-black,
The Storm-Runner laughs at the pursuing blackness,
Roaring down at him with ever-more furious peals of thunder,
The storm cannot kill its constant enemy, the immortal,
Though it hurls hailstones in rage from the skies,
Sending a tornado, a whirling tower of wind,
Tearing at the fertile soil of the plains,
And the Storm-Runner, immortal, champion of the plains,
Laughs at the weakening thunder, in the face of the breaking black
He looks up to the clearing sky, wet hair dancing in the gentle wind.

I was hoping you’d actually sing “wonton” the way it’s typed, cuz I’d really, REALLY like to see a true wonton fury sometime before I die. However, as this was a paid song, I understand. But now I want you to write a song titled “Wonton Fury.” :D
This is amazing! I would very much like to talk to the person who wrote the lyrics
This deserves more comments! It’s incredible, both lyric- and music-wise! I’m inspired to draw a scene from it now…
This song/poem has inspired a character!
I used an avatar maker to show my version of his physical appearence and I wrote a short story about my character idea, seen in the “artist’s comment”. All credit given, hopefully! Thanks!

That was definitely a great song.
wow! you did really good sounding similar to great big sea, keep up the good work
I hadn’t actually thought to look at the comments…shame on me. Imapumpkinwhee, the picture is awesome (and looks, eerily enough, somewhat like me). Thanks for the compliments, all, and thanks again, Andrew, for being awesome.
who ever came up with the sestina poem format must have been a really horrible song writer.
Andrew i think you did really well with the melody and it fit so well. kinda a wester feel. but this format of poem makes the song horrible to listen to especially since there is no flow to this poem. its horadic to the ears to hear the end of one verse have the the beginning of the second. and thats another problem no repeating verses or lines thats what makes a song different from a poem. I would say that SHINE ON! was one of your best poem to song renditions. this however was not your fault, its just a bad format of a poem to use in a song.
i will say again cause im sure ill get haters, i liked the melody that andrew created. but the writer of the lyrics is amatuer at best and telling them otherwise is not gonna help them improve. As for the Sestina format of the poem, if that is your argument, i will rebutle it with the fact that yes it is a poetic format, and thats all its good for. ITS NOT FIT FOR A SONG!
Wicked,
True, the sestina was not a form invented to be made into song; I’ll be the first to give you that. That being said, I’ll put up what defense I can.
The sestina itself is a challenge. To the poet, it’s a difficult hill. I wanted to take that challenge a step further and–because of the very reasons you’ve cited–turn the poem into a song. Admittedly, The Storm-Runner isn’t my best sestina, and not by best poem by far, but the best suited to the purpose. After quite a few frustrating and lamentably awful attempts to do so myself, I decided I’d turn the challenge over to more masterful hands, my thinking being if Andrew couldn’t do it–the kind of thing he does for a living–then it’s entirely possible it can’t be done. Quite obviously, it is possible, as the song is–at least to me (and I’m not here to debate in musical taste)–excellent.
So, while The Storm-Runner won’t be topping any charts or (in song or in its pure poetic form) winning any awards, my purpose was satisfied and my expectations far exceeded. I hope that this alleviates some of your anger.
Sincerely,
Raz
My drawing that i made for this ROCKS!!!
this song makes me feel like writing something violent but maybe that’s what school does to me.
