THE ORIGINAL SONGS TO WEAR PANTS TO
A few years before starting this website, I put out a CD by the same name. Beyond the name, the website and the album don’t really have anything to do with each other, except that it’s all my music.
Anyway, I thought they were sold out, but I recently discovered 22 copies still shrink-wrapped and hiding in a box.

It’s got these songs on it, plus 11 more that I haven’t posted anywhere online:
MOSES
MARY POPPINS
SCATTERBABY
LIMBIC
WHITE
Want a copy? I’m asking $9, which includes shipping to anywhere in the world.
Blast from the past!

THE GIANT SQUID
This is a Paid Song! Learn more…
I’m an editor at Poor Mojo’s almanack. I would love a theme song for the Giant Squid column.
I’ve met with the other editors and we’ve scraped up the $10,000,000* for the full-on Pants treatment, but one of my co-editors tossed this idea out:
“If we go 10,000,000*, do we want to ask for two versions? The standard rock anthem circa 1976, and then the japanese girl band punk cover from the late nineties? Figure whatever a normal 10,000,000* dollar song would be (like 2-3 minutes) and cut it in half.”
Facts about The Giant Squid:
He lives atop the Renaissance Center (aka RenCen) in Detroit.
He has a Velocitator to travel on land (it’s kind of a robo-suit)
Once fought Lincoln (or at least the spiritually animated Lincoln Memorial)
Whales are his mortal enemy
His eyes are optically perfect
He eats dogs
The Giant Squid desires to conquer the world.
The biting and crawling things of the ocean are his minions.

THE IZZY & TACO SHOW THEME
This is a Paid Song! Learn more…
The song I’m hoping for is a gift for my wife. The song is about our two cats, Taco and Isabelle, and their crazy hijinks. It should be in the form of a TV theme song along the lines of the great 1960s show themes like Gilligan’s Island, The Beverley Hillbillies, etc. (i.e. the theme should be both in that musical style and tell the story that sets up the “show”). Use as much as you can/want to work into the song. You can also use our names (Karen and Mike).
Basically, though, I’m hoping for something lighthearted and fun that tells a story like those themes do and sounds reasonably close in musical terms to that style.
Taco
aka: Buddy, Buddycat, “Vicious” Taco
info: Male. Born in Bremerton, WA. Adopted. About 2 years old.
favorite toys:
- Feather Toy
- Leather Toy
- Juice Ring (or just “Ring”)
- Spinner
traits/hobbies:
- Sleeping
- Getting hair on everything
- Chasing Isabelle
- Flopping (i.e. falling over in the middle of the floor)
- Loves to eat, steals Isabelle’s food when he gets the chance.
- A little afraid of new people.
- Really nice blue eyes.
Isabelle
aka: Fuzzy, Izzy, Crazy Fuzz
info: Female. Born in Forks, WA. Adopted. About 2 years old.
favorite toys:
- “Crazel” Nut
- Fur Ball
- “Tree of Love”
traits/hobbies:
- Likes to climb on our backs/shoulders and go for a “tour”
- Climbing on her tree
- Bopping Taco in the head
- Sitting on the laptop
- Likes exploring and meeting new people.
- Huge, fuzzy tail.
Like any cat, they sleep most of the day and get into everything when they’re awake. With fair regularity they’ll chase each other around the apartment with wild abandon (”craziness is afoot”).

KAMIKAZE HIGHLANDER
This is a Paid Song! Learn more…
KAMIKAZE HIGHLANDER
[SHORT INSTRUMENTAL LEAD-IN - 20 seconds or so of mournful tin whistles with synthesized bagpipes playing very quietly in the background and military sounding drums (similar to what you had at the beginning of "MC Underwear vs. MC Pantz") - a good reference for the sound for the intro and the ballad following might be the song "Going Home" by Mary Fahl from the "Gods and Generals" soundtrack, the Irish theme about 40 seconds into the "These Brave Irishmen" track from the same sountrack, or the song "Mo Ghile Mear" on the album "The Long Black Veil" by The Chieftains]
[INTRO: Celtic ballad style, with tin flute or recorder and whatever background instruments you feel appropriate]
He came alone to our fair town,
Our tower by the lake.
Katana at his side, in ghillie brogues
Left sorrow in his wake.
A kilt, a brush, a flying scarf
‘Twas strange for the eye to see.
An artist and a warrior both
With the blood of two countries
But now the lad has found true love
by the cliffs of Scarborough-town
Now the fire of a life full-lived
Burns in his eyes so brown
[throughout the second and third verses, the sampled sound of an aircraft in a screaming dive (a kamikaze pilot reference) grows louder and louder – at the moment when you’d think the plane would hit, there is no crashing explosion, instead, the sample cuts off abruptly and you hear:]
One, two, three, four!
[MAIN SONG: tin whistle with acoustic guitar played like a mandolin and catchy drums - sort of like the sound you had for "Celtic Techno Burrito". I'm not sure how you did it with the instruments you have, but it sounded good. Mix in whatever combination of instruments and styles to give it a "Japanese" touch. Whether that's modern Japanese or traditional Japanese, I'll leave to you, but I love juxtaposition and hybridization of cultural styles. I’m happy with the chorus, but you can change it if you wish. The rest of the lyric fragments below I like, but you can toss, rearrange or reword them as you see fit.
[Chorus:]
He’s the Kamikaze Highlander
He’s a half-breed samurai
He’s living in this floating world
Drinking scotch and flying high
[lyric unresolved]
When he fights he fights to win
Yellow skin and a red beard
He’s an almond-eyed gaijin
[Chorus]
With his fair lass at his side
[lyric unresolved]
Japanese resolve, Scottish pride
Don’t even talk about retreat
[Chorus]
He’s a proud Canadian
He can draw up some real mean plans.
He loves montreal smoked meat
Too bad he can’t skate worth a damn!
[guitar solo – I love delta blues slide guitar – if you can somehow make a slide guitar solo fit with the sound of the rest of the song in the context of this solo – Ry Cooder-esque, I would be very, very happy]
[shouted individual words, followed by electric guitar riffs]
Sporran!
Hachimaki!
Sgian Dubh![pronounced: skin doo]
Katana!
[dischordant guitar + cymbals - general noise + haiku by Basho in spoken word a la Rage Against the Machine's "Know your enemy" finale. Repeat haiku if desired.]
Summer grasses -
All that remains
of soldiers’ dreams.
[brief tin flute solo to the end (similar theme to introduction music), with sampled keyboard shamisen sting at end]

SAVAGE CHICKENS THEME
This is a Paid Song! Learn more…
I need a theme song for my web site: Savage Chickens. It’s a cartoon featuring poorly drawn chickens on yellow sticky notes. You can get ideas for lyrics from my About page or from reading some of the cartoons. Musically, I’d like a freestyle tune with a funky bass line and maybe some hammond organ thrown in.
I mean a rap - i guess i was thinking along the lines of some of my favourite Songs To Wear Pants To tunes like Do I Get the Bonus Points, My Sister-in-Law’s Ears, Super Mario Bros theme, Cheese and Crackers…

CAPTAIN OBVIOUS THEME
This is a Paid Song! Learn more…
So, I already have the music that my friend wrote and we want you to write lyrics to it.
Could you write a theme song for a superhero my friends and I came up with named “Captain Obvious?”
One day, billion dollar industrialist Mark Klingler was walking down the street, talking on his cell phone. Suddenly Mark looked up to see a satellite plummeting toward him. Mark uttered the blatantly obvious statement “That satellite is about to hit my head!” And it did. The combine force of satellite and the radiation from the cell phone and the baltantly obvious statement transformed Mark into CAPTAIN OBVIOUS.
His superpower is that he states the obvious… obviously. His weakness is confusion or being confused and we would really like to hear what you can do for an up-beat theme song for our hero.

KILLROY AND TINA THEME
This is a Paid Song! Learn more…
Once upon a time, a big blue man from across the universe.
Messed up the cosmic balance and was banished to Earth.
On another world, with a teenage girl, who’s one-third his size.
They share the same superpowers, and red glowing eyes
It’s Killroy and Tina. A tag-team indentured.
Together they might save the day.
Cause she’s just a demon girl, And he’s just been censured.
Adventure is not far away
So now they have to work together if they want to survive.
While the Fulcrum of the Universe watches over their lives.
And that’s about all you need to know that fits in this song.
There’s Brandon, Wraith, and others too, but that would get too long
It’s Killroy and Tina. A tag-team indentured.
Together they might save the day.
Cause she’s just a demon girl, And he’s just been censured.
Adventure is not far away
It’s Killroy and Tina. A tag-team indentured.
Together they might save the day.
Cause she’s just a demon girl, And he’s just been censured.
Adventure is not far away

SONGS TO WEAR PANTS TO THEME
Why don’t you write a theme song for Songs To Wear Pants To? You could even use an actual pair of pants as an instrument in the song.

SHUFFLE FUNCTION THEME
This is a Paid Song! Learn more…
Name: Shuffle Function
Hosts: Shyboy Tim and Shelley
SLOGAN: POP MUSIC AS PORNOGRAPHY
I would like the song to be very much in the Power Pop vein.
Thematically, the only part of the song that should reference the show and talk about it is the chorus. Otherwise, the verses should be about how the show is on entirely too early in the day and the listeners should hit snooze or call in sick and sleep in, instead of go about their lives or even listen to our show.
Start with simple piano, with a verse about how the alarm went off and it is entirely too early to get up, that the listener was out late or something and should really hit the snooze because it’s really early in the morning but would another few minutes of sleep really do it?
The second verse should essentially be the same piano as the first verse, but with the addition of a bass and high-hat cymbal. This verse should continue to convince the listener to just lseep in, perhaps suggesting that they might have some sick days left at work and offer possible illnesses they could use as an excuse.
The chorus should be more along the lines on Redd Kross songs. The show’s name should be mentioned, as should our names. It could also mention how we’re sworn enemies of commercial radio and that we are music geeks. Also, it should be suggested that our show is nearly as satisfying as sleep.
The chorus should be followed by a guitar solo (underneath, which must be the following backwards message: SATAN MAKES THE BEST PASTA).
