STILL ALIVE
Quite a few people have asked me to cover this song from the credits of the game Portal, so I social media-fied some genre suggestions and made this.
Also check out my YouTube video of the recording of the vocals!

RIVER CITY
This is a Paid Song! Learn more…
I’ve been a fan of your site for over five years now. I’m an officer currently deployed to Iraq. Whenever the brigade takes casualties we were put under reduced communication, also known as River City. Not only are you reminded of the danger but you also become completely disconnected from your loved ones. I wrote this poem when we were in ‘River City’ thinking about how I just want to make it through these next few months and come home safe to my family and wonderful girlfriend.
Your sentimental pieces are amazing, and I’m a fan of songs mainly played with either acoustic guitar or piano, but wouldn’t be opposed to some drums and any other instruments that seem to fit the rhythm. Here is the poem but I won’t mind at all if you changed some of it to help the flow:
I’m in River City, I can’t talk right now.
A fallen Soldier’s wife is all alone.
The sun sets within this desert waste.
Some say ‘we reap whatever is sown.’
But what did he do? What offense did he make?
A man in the shadows decided his fate.
Now it’s too late, for him to say last goodbyes,
It’s too late.
I’m in River City, I can’t hear you right now,
While a fallen Soldier’s wife cries out.
The sun fades from this forsaken place.
Some say ‘it’s no use to scream and shout.รข
But what did he do? What offense did he make?
A man in the shadows decided his fate.
Now it’s too late, for him to say last goodbyes,
It’s too late.
I’m in River City, I can’t see you right now.
Rest and sleep ever harder to find.
The sun sinks low at a steady pace.
Some say ‘it’ll get better with time’
But what did he do? What offense did he make?
A man in the shadows decided his fate
Now it’s too late, for him to say last goodbyes,
It’s too late.
I’m in River City, but I feel you somehow,
I dream of the memories we’ll share.
The sun’s final rays move down your face.
You whisper ’stay safe and take care’
But all I need is you, for a full life to make,
Without men in the shadows deciding our fate.
We just have to wait, till I find my way home,
We just have to wait
The only bit of musical direction I would like is if the 3rd chorus of “But what did he do?…” would be stronger and more intense than the rest, a tangible bitterness I think. Then it would soften for the last two stanzas that are about thinking of home. I could also see another quiet ‘We just have to wait…’ thrown in at the end.

THE TOOTHBRUSH SONG
I like my teeth and wish to stop them from rotting so I can still have them when I am old, but brushing my teeth is not very exciting. I have tried wacky toothbrushes, colourful toothpastes, and dancing ladies to entice me to the bathroom sink, but I am left feeling nothing but the tedium of dental hygiene as I brush away. Can you please write me a song that I can put on while brushing my teeth to inspire me? Try to pick a good tempo for tooth-brushing, so I can scrub it to the groove.
